BARK AND THE GANG

A podcast series about art, knocking around with the gang

#26 BARK and the Gang - Hannah Kraus und Jeroen Cremers

In this episode, we’re joined by Dutch artist and sculptor Jeroen Cremers, who chats to us about his inspirations - which range from science fiction films to ancient civilisations -, his artistic procedure, dystopias and utopias, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on his work. Listen to learn more about Jeroen’s fascinating exhibition ‘The unexpected guest’ at BARK BERLIN GALLERY.

#25 BARK and the Gang - Uli Seibert und Magdalena Piech

Was ist Fetisch?

Host Taja van der Does chats with German portrait and documentary photographer Victoria Jung about her new exhibition “fever dream” at BARK BERLIN GALLERY. They cover Vicky’s start as a photographer, recount some special memories of her time in the ‘city of extremes’ New Orleans and discuss the development of this unique long-term photo essay project. In New Orleans, Vicky got to know an extraordinary, creative, queer community that found its home in a place under constant threat, where lights are bright as the shadows are dark. Listen and get to know Vicky, New Orleans and the protaginists of her pictures, in this episode of BARK AND THE GANG.

#20 BARK AND THE GANG - Gordon Burgund and Lucas Pertile

The argentinian painter Lucas Pertile describes his process as a folder filled with landscapes, flora, and fauna. Taken from the argentinian jungle and then put onto canvas, his paintings, much like portals, tend to transport you to a different place in the world. As our host, Gordon Burgund points out a blessing for the cold winter months in Berlin.

Together they talk about Pertile's new exhibition ''Monkey Island'' and how that title represents more than the paintings shown at our gallery.

All this and much more about Lucas Pertile, like his upbringing and favorite music in this episode of BARK and the Gang.

#19 BARK AND THE GANG - Gordon Burgund mit Katharina Renneisen und Max Renneisen

#18 BARK AND THE GANG - Bazon Brock and Charlie Stein

#17 BARK AND THE GANG - Bazon Brock and Ricard Larsson
Sculptures Galore! In this episode, the legendary professor Bazon Brock talks to artist Ricard Larsson about his big, black bronze sculptures.
They go through Ricard's work at his studio and contemplate the creation of god, earth, and the meaning of life.
Why should you choose to work as a sculptor instead of a painter? What are the opportunities you gain from the medium, and what are the challenges?
Larsson seems to have the answers as he talks about his work ethic and plans for the future.
Within the world of Larsson's sculptures, destruction and creation become one and the same thing.

#15 Eric Engelbracht und Giorgos Kontis - BARK AND THE GANG
Host Eric Engelbracht drowsily chats away with greek artist Giorgos Kontis about authenticity in art & life, his purposeful odyssee to berlin and billiards.

Host Jeffrey Grunthaner speaks with 3D artist Harriet Davey about character creation in Blender, her ongoing work with the online collectives @digi.gxl and @flintminted, the role video games have played in her aesthetic, and why she sometimes refers to her work as “visually vomiting.”

#14 Uli Seibert und Daniel Chluba - BARK AND THE GANG
Hass macht so einsam.

#13 Lea Bertucci - BARK AND THE GANG
This past November, Jeffrey Grunthaner spoke with composer Lea Bertucci about experimental music, the nature of recording vs. live performance, her recent collaboration with artist and composer Ben Vida, and how she incorporates field recordings into her work. Tracklist: 1. Vapours (excerpt) (Bertucci) 2. An Arc of the Horizon (Bertucci) 3. The Beacon (Bertucci) 4. Threshes (Bertucci) 5. Gasps and Spasms (Bertucci, Vida) 6. Grasslands (Bertucci)

#12 - Nicola E. Petek and Christopher Colm Morrin
In this episode of BARK AND THE GANG curator Nicola E. Petek chats with Irish artist Christopher Colm Morrin about his latest solo exhibition "Unknown Landscapes". Everything from spiritual visions, near death experiences, to the joy of accepting ones vulnerability within the creative process is discussed. This is quite possibly one of our most personal artist talks yet.

#11 - Uwe Henneken and Sky Glabush - BARK AND THE GANG
In this episode of Bark and the Gang, host Jeffrey Grunthaner moderates a discussion between artists Uwe Henneken and Sky Glabush. Touching on themes ranging from how painters curate, to the shamanic potentials inherent in art, Henneken and Glabush also discuss their respective practices and what they admire in each other's work.

#10 - Uwe Henneken and Jakob Steen - BARK AND THE GANG
Artist and writer Jeffrey Grunthaner talks with two painters—German artist Uwe Henneken and Danish artist Jakob Steen—about the many facets of influence that shape their collaborative explorations. Along the way, Henneken and Steen discuss finding inspiration in friendship, and how paintings of caves and volcanoes can allude to humanity's primal origins.

#9 Best of the Best: An Interview with Andy Best - BARK AND THE GANG
For the 9th episode of Bark and the Gang, Jeffrey Grunthaner speaks with Berlin-based artist Andy Best about his recent exhibition at Bark Gallery, and how he turned a welter of algorithmically sourced images into paintings that reference the Tori Amos song “Hey Jupiter.”

#6 Gregor Hildebrandt - BARK AND THE GANG
Tune und and find out!

#5 CHARLIE STEIN - BARK AND THE GANG

#4 YVON CHABROWSKI - BARK AND THE GANG

#3 MATTHIAS DORNFELD - BARK AND THE GANG

#2 PHILIPP KREMER - BARK AND THE GANG

#1 DENNIS RUDOLPH - BARK AND THE GANG
